JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – April 10, 2022 – At Jacksonville Arts and Music School, the JAMS family is proud to announce the appointment of David Miller, Tracie Davis, and Alexander Iraj Bijan Tureman as our newest board members. All three members will serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2022.
In the past five years, JAMS has made significant strides to "empower the creative leaders of tomorrow," using the arts as a conduit for cultivating critical thinking, problem-solving, and other invaluable leadership skills. JAMS now serves as a destination for cultural and leadership development for youth. "It's more than art," says Executive Director Jason Peoples. "We've helped many students discover artistic abilities they didn't know they possessed. More importantly, however, we've shown them how to convert those abilities into the essential kind of leadership our city needs for the future. As Benjamin Disraeli once said, 'The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own."
JAMS has kept a dedicated focus on maintaining board diversity, ensuring that the students and community we engage are well represented within the organization's leadership core. "The many challenges surrounding our city won't be fixed by those who look like me," says Board Chair Ted Stein. Our Board needs to reflect those we serve today, who will be responsible for leading us tomorrow."
David, Co-founder/Board member of Brightway Insurance, Tracie, Florida House Representative, and Alex, Senior Advisor to the Ambassador, Embassy of Australia and Founding Partner & Global Chief Executive Office with Bondi Group, all bring an immense level of knowledge and oversight to the organization from both professional and personal perspectives. Along with other members of the Board and JAMS senior leadership, they will steer the organization through its next strategic cycle. The combination of local, state, and national presence with business and non-profit leadership knowledge will help ensure the sustainability and scalability of JAMS and allow for more profound impact and reach as we grow into the future.
